Contemporary interior design style consists of a range of various styles that have evolved and developed in the latter half of the 20th century. The pieces of furniture in this style are rounded, more softened as opposed to having sharp and stark lines that we might typically see in modern interior design style. In the contemporary style of décor, the interiors would usually consist of bold colours, neutral elements that focus more on the basics of line, form and shape.

If you’re thinking of upgrading your living room, here are a few ideas with which you can transform it into a classic contemporary haven.

Dining Table

Since contemporary living room decor ideas get a lot of influence from the latter half of the 20th century where wooden furniture was a dominant part of the décor, you might want to consider buying a dining table made up of wood. You could use one made up of light coloured wood like maple or birch.

Sofa

The one piece of furniture that ties the whole living room together is the sofa. The place where you sit with your friends and family, share memories and have a good time. A sofa can be fairly expensive, so while investing keep in mind the shape that you desire, the size and the kind of fabric that would go with it. You could use natural fabrics such as wool, silk, linen or even cotton for the upholstery of your sofa. Make sure that the hues on the upholstery are simple because the geometric pattern and a bit of design and drama can easily be brought in by throwing some colourful pillows on it.
