In the 16th edition of the famous Asian Paints company’s Colour Next19, ‘Awakening’ was unveiled as the colour of the year 2019. One should know that he marketing team of Asian Paints team makes sure to collaborate with the best of architects, fashion and interior designers, the cream of the crop from the F&B and Media industry in order to assemble together the most sophisticated and comprehensible guide to textures, colours, materials and finishes for our country.

Since the year of 2003, Asian Paints has been giving out a rather safe and predictive palette of colours which are in collaboration with the best designs minds of our country having included valuable feedback and inputs from choices of colour to the behaviour of the consumer.

The colour of the year of 2018 was a calming and happy yellow, called Passion Flower of 2018 and this time to shake things up a little, Asian Paints had decided to go for a mature tonality; hence the shade of plum.

This colour is apt for the interior of dining room interior design ideas.

‘Awakening’ rightfully takes the centre stage and embodies optimism, courage and a woke vibe if you will. It is the power of deep brown along with purple which gives us the striking shade of plum. Just as the colour looks, it stands true to its appearance of dynamism and confidence.

In today’s day and age where people from all over the world have become increasingly aware of the burning issues that surround us and also promote their own views that are socially progressive as well, the term ‘woke’ has become more than just a hashtag for a warrior of social justice. Activism present in social media does not have a negative connotation to it anymore. Many businesses around the world have taken to this notion and are incorporating it into their business briefs and are using it as a tool in order to bring about change.

An idea parallel to just this, ColourNext 2019, the colour of the year which is an earthy shade of plum, does the title ‘Awakeninig’ justice. This strong yet subtle colour is a reflection of rebelling for the causes that are rightful and also believing that the change you want to bring about, is just round the corner if you’re willing to work hard for it.

We got to catch up with the General Manager – Innovation, Digital, Design and Customer Experience at Asian Paints in order to find out the why the prediction of this colour is more important than most global ones, and here’s what he had to say.

“ColourNext is an India-specific forecasting exercise. This colour direction is current and rooted in the visual, social and cultural context of India. It captures the mood of the nation and is bound to inspire designers and artists working across various disciplines.”

Awakening has the ability to not only add a sense of maturity to the space, but also infuse some warmth into it. It is absolutely perfect for the millennials that are ‘woke’ and identify with the characteristics that the colour stands for.

The undertones to ‘Awakening’ pushes one to speak up and not easily get drowned in the crowd. It instils the value of rejecting the wrong doinds and standing for what is right.

In order to showcase the very application for ‘Awakening’, Asian Paints as we previously mentioned brought the cream of the crop from various fields together to yield the outcome of the glorious plum shade. We also asked a few experts what they had to say about the colour chosen and weigh in with their opinion. This is what they had to say.

“The term awakening signifies change. A change in the way we think and how we live. It signifies a shift in our perspectives. The Colour of the Year represents this change, with it’s refreshing and unusual nature. The term is especially relevant in 2019 as we collectively become more aware and conscious of our surroundings. Millennials are the new decision makers, from leading the circular economy to finding meaning in their work or being conscious about the environment, ‘Awakening’ is a metaphor for being aware and having a purpose.”

‘Awakening’ is the kind of colour which can easily be incorporated in any rom with any kind of décor because of its versatility. Asian Paints scored bonus points this time with their colour of the year 2019. So when you’re looking out for home furnishings online, do keep this colour in mind.
